Transfer Training 06 December 2023

Second successful anaesthetic transfer course at UHNM – 06 December 2023

After a successful launch last year the state of the art extended reality lab and County Hospital’s Postgraduate Medical Centre (PGMC) delivered another fantastic anaesthetic transfer course for Stage 1 anaesthetic postgraduate doctors in training. With the help of the training ambulance and critical care paramedic provided by Staffordshire University, and anaesthetic faculty from across the West Midlands it offered real life training in how to transfer critically ill and injured patients during inter hospital transfers.  Dr Felicity Avann, the course director said “The Stoke on Trent School of Anaesthesia transfer training course aims to teach anaesthetic doctors in training how to transfer critically ill patients during hospital transfers. It consists of lectures, workshops and simulation based sessions covering a range of critical incidents that may occur on a transfer. The simulations focus on communication, team working and decision making. I am very pleased the course has again received great feedback especially as we had increased the number of attendees to 20. The faculty and I hope it has given a good basis to the anaesthetic doctors in training to help develop their transferring skills in the future.
