Remembering Dr Viv Hughes

The Stoke on Trent School of Anaesthesia team are saddened to learn of the death of Dr Viv Hughes, who passed away on Sunday 11 October 2026 age 85. Dr Hughes was the first Training Programme Director of the School when it was created in 1996. It was originally called STARS (Stoke-on-Trent Anaesthetic Rotation Scheme). During his retirement, Dr Hughes maintained a keen interest in the School and the successes of it’s resident Doctors. Dr Hughes is pictured here (second from right) with members of the UHNM Anaesthetic Department (old and not-so-old) at Ann Moore’s (Stoke School Administrator & Secretary) retirement lunch in 2024. Dr Hughes will be greatly missed by us all.
