Intensive Care Medicine
Core Level
- This is available in most hospitals
Intermediate and Higher Levels
- It is expected that at least one of these units of training will be in the Royal Stoke Hospital
Additional ICM
- Additional ICM is for trainees with an interest in ICM but are not a Dual trainee. This is usually for 6 months. The trainee needs to seek prospective approval from the RCoA training department with confirmation of support from the Head of School and FICM Regional Adviser after speaking to the Anaesthetic TPD.
Neuro Anaesthesia
Intermediate and Higher Levels
- This unit of training is only available at the Royal Stoke
Advanced Level
- 6-12 months, currently only available at UHB within the deanery
Cardio-thoracic Anaesthesia
Intermediate and Higher Levels
- Available at the Royal Stoke and the Royal Wolverhampton
Advanced Level
- 12 months, currently not available within the Stoke School. To pursue this career option, a secondment to another region is the route to success.
Obstetric Anaesthesia
Core, Intermediate and Higher Levels
- Available in most hospitals
Advanced Level
- 6 month unit of training in various combinations
- 6 months at BWH
- 6 months at Royal Stoke
- 3 months BWH + 3 months Royal Wolverhampton
Placements for Advanced Obs are very limited and are coordinated through the TPD. A request to the TPD is required, at which point you will be placed on the waiting list.
Paediatric Anaesthesia
Core and Intermediate Levels
- Available in most hospitals
Higher Level
- 3 months at BCH
- 3 months at Royal Stoke
- 3 months at Royal Wolverhampton
Advanced Level
- 6 months at BCH. A combination of Higher + Advanced can no longer be covered in the 6 months. Higher need to be completed before commencing Advanced.
Placements at BCH are very limited and are coordinated through the TPD. A request to the TPD is required, at which point you will be placed on the waiting list.
Pain
Core Training
- Available in most hospitals
Intermediate and Higher
- Intermediate availlable in most hospitals. Intermediate Pain Medicine Training Leaflet v2
- Higher available at Wolverhampton
Advanced
- 12 months. Available as a secondment to the B’ham School
Regional Anaesthesia
Core Training
- Available in most hospitals
Intermediate and Higher
- Available in most hospitals
- Option to go to ROH in Birmingham for 3 months at either intermediate of higher. Aplication through the TPD
Advanced
- Shrewsbury
- Wolverhampton
- Burton
- As part of the Regional Anaesthesia Fellowship
Management and leadership
During your advanced training the skills within Domain 1-6 are gained. These are expected to be achieved in parallel to the Clinical Advanced modules of training.
