UHNM Anaesthetic Services Praised Following National Accreditation
UHNM has received national recognition after achieving accreditation from the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
UHNM’s anaesthetic department has achieved Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) following a review of services at Royal Stoke and County hospital.
Reviewers praised teams for working closely together and highlighted examples of good practice including UHNM’s preoperative service.
The service was recognised for its multidisciplinary approach to supporting patients with additional needs as well as a ‘one stop shop’ which helps patients on urgent cancer pathways move through their care more quickly.
Dr Sue Moss, lead clinical reviewer, said: “I would like to acknowledge the hard work, strong organisation and dedication that helped UHNM achieve ACSA accreditation.
“The review team observed collaborative working across perioperative pathways and a structured approach to service delivery across two hospital sites for both adult and paediatric patients. UHNM preoperative service was one area of good practice with effective MDT working for patients with special needs and a ‘one stop shop’ to expedite patients on urgent cancer pathways.”
Lay reviewer Ann Shearer said: “It was good to see a large team of anaesthetists working well together as this will impact on patient care. The anaesthetists in training enjoy working in teams and there is good support for those on the CESR pathway and for the consultant cohort.”
Examples of outstanding practice from UHNM will now also be included in the Royal College of Anaesthetists’ library of good practice, which is used by other anaesthetic departments taking part in the accreditation programme.
