ARCP Logbooks

ARCP logbook Format

At ARCP you are required to present the 5 page RCoA logbook Summary. Ideally this is collated into 1 file, saved as a PDF, uploaded to the e-portfolio and attached to the ARCP record.

Do not present the Raw data as this will result in an adverse outcome at ARCP.

Logbook summaries will be required for the current year of training (since your last ARCP), and a cummulative logbook for the entire CT or ST training.

This information can be found in the Logbook page of the website

Training Extensions

A new Post Graduate Dean was appointed last year at the deanery. Since than the rules regarding extensions to training, set out in the Gold Guide, have been applied more strictly.

Trainees will be able to have additional aggregated training time. In the hospital specialties this will be up to one year within the total duration of the training programme (up to six months for core training, and one year across both core and higher specialty training).

Exceptionally, this additional training time may be extended at the discretion of the Postgraduate Dean but with an absolute maximum of two years in hospital specialties within the total duration of the training programme (up to one year for core training, and two years across both core and higher specialty training)

What this means for you:

  • Only 6 months extensions will be available at CT level. A further 6 months will require application to the Post Graduate Dean.
  • A maximum of 1 year is available at CT level
  • ST4 extensions will need to take into account previous extensions at CT level.
  • ST4 extensions more than 1 year (including CT extensions) will require application to the Post Graduate Dean.
  • A maximum of 2 years is available at ST level (including CT extensions)

This information is available in the ARCP section of the Website

NEW: OSCE Spotlight videos on RCoA Website

Dear All

The College is pleased to present a new series of OSCE ‘spotlight’ videos.  There are seven videos in this spotlight series:  History, Communication, Physical examination, Technical Skills, Interactive Resuscitation, Equipment check and a demonstration of a station that uses a touch screen computer, ‘the unmanned station’.

Each video provides advice on what a candidate should expect to find when they enter the station.  The video then moves on to demonstrate satisfactory and non-satisfactory performance of a particular scenario and concludes with a reminder of the standard rules.

An OSCE run through video which provides an overview of the exam is also available, this is ideal viewing for candidates sitting the OSCE for the first time.  The videos are available on the College website and can be viewed on the following link:
