Additional Support For Educational Courses Using Aspirational Leave

Dear Trainees

We would like to thank you for your contribution in helping with the unprecedented conditions which you are all facing. We are aware many of you have not have been able to access the usual courses, and would like to offer this once-only opportunity to apply for funding to support an additional qualification or skill.

We are intending to provide funding for up to £1000 each for up to 20 Post fellowship trainees to pursue a course. Applications will be through the normal aspirational leave route; therefore, this will require the support of your educational supervisor and College tutor. The application will be a competitive process, which will be judged on your commitment and contribution to the training programme, and your intended aims/reasons for doing the course. You will also need to show good progression through the training programme. Please detail this on a page of A4, accompanied by the completed  aspirational leave form which should be forwarded to me or Paul Jones for review. It is hoped the process of allocation, and reimbursement will be completed before the end of March 2021.

Applications may also be considered for funding towards courses that are already in progress.

Any queries to Drs. Edmends or Jones.

Closing date: 18th December 2020

Stoke School Rotations Update

Dear Trainees

I trust you are all well and managing in these unprecedented times.

With regards to rotations I would like to reiterate that there will be no May rotations within the training programme. We are hopeful August rotations might go ahead but this is by no means a certainty yet and will be dictated by the current pandemic. Further information about August rotations will be made available as soon as it becomes available.

We might also face a few challenges with the upcoming June/July ARCPs. We are working on IT solutions for remote panels. From your perspective kindly collate all the information you have available for your ARCP as per the checklist. We will review all submitted information in lieu of the COVID crisis and ARCP Outcomes will be made in accordance. Please note that we will apply a great deal of leniency at ARCP given the disruption caused by the COVID 19 crisis.

On a personal note we want to say thank you for the great deal of professional behaviour and camaraderie demonstrated by all trainees on the programme during this pandemic. It is truly a pleasure to work with you all.

Kind regards

Dr. S. Agarwal & Dr. C. De Klerk

ICM Units of Training & COVID-19

Dear Trainees

We have had an update from our FICM Regional Advisor regarding ICM Units of Training(UoTs).

For those of you (CT, ACCS, ST) who have your ICM UoTs scheduled from May 2020 onwards, it would seem a logical step to move that UoT forward to the present. It is very likely you will be able to get the required competencies for ICM completed given the current situation.

Changes to Period of Grace Following EXIT ARCP

As of August 2019 the usual practice of receiving an automatic 6 months Period of Grace following a trainee’s CCT will cease.

In future all trainees wishing to take up the 6 months period of grace following their CCT date will have to give HEE 12 weeks notice to agree employment terms with the Trust in question.

A trainee will also then need to give 3 months notice when they wish to leave before the end of the Period of Grace contract.

Life Long Learning Platform Changeover Guidance

Dear Trainees and Trainers

As you all know by now the RCoA e-portfolio in it’s current form is coming to an end on the 31 July 2018 and will be replaced by the Life Long Learning Platform.

Please read the attached RCoA and local guidance explaining the changeover procedure and requirements.

Please note it is paramount everyone engages in this changeover to prevent loss of data and information from previous training years.

Educational Supervisors Less Than Full Time Training Package

Health Education England e-Learning for Healthcare (HEE e-LfH) has developed an e-learning session for Educational Supervisors of less than full time (LTFT) trainee doctors.

The session aims to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to effectively supervise a LTFT trainee and raise awareness of the supervisors’ responsibilities. It highlights the importance of revalidation issues in LTFT trainees.

Teaching Attendance

Attendance at teaching sessions is a mandatory part of training.

If you are on a day off or a rest period, you should try and swap your shifts. However, we know that this is not always possible. In such an instance you should let their Educational Supervisor and College Tutors know, so that this can be recorded and taken into consideration when calculating the percentage attendance for ARCP purposes and for training extension requests.

For regional teaching you are required to apply for study leave locally to ensure that you are able to attend. The School should be informed if there is a problem with trainees not being released from clinical duties to attend teaching days.
